The Peter Hunt Memorial Trophy

The Peter Hunt Memorial Trophy celebrates the fun of boating with an on-water course to test the skills of a captain. The captain who displays the highest skill will win the title and the boat they have mastered.

Like any good game, we need rules, terms, conditions, and at least one astirx*. These are as follows:

The trophy will be contested at the South Sydney Marine Expo, 08 November 2025 during the event.

To compete, a participant must be registered and complete a boating consent form. Turn up and have a go, we have the forms and will group participants into heats conducted at scheduled times.

The on-water course will represent a typical skippering scenario, with the specific course advised on the day. The course is a timed omnibus challenge requiring the competitor to navigate a short course while completing boating tasks.

The competitor completes the course with a recorded time, with time awarded or penalised according to the completion of the boating tasks. Some of the boating tasks may be subject to chance.

At the end of the day, the competitor with the lowest time score will be taken as the most skilful captain of the day and awarded the Peter Hunt Memorial Trophy. The accolade will include the dinghy they have mastered and some fancy silverware.

The dinghy will be the 8' Pram in Fleet Red new-built in the dam buster configuration. If required, the delivery of the boat is not included in the prize.

Mountain Boats, South Sydney Marine Expo, Bayside Marina and any other affiliates may reasonably vary any part or all of the event, or stop the competition in concern of safety.
