8' Pram

Length Overall: 2.39m, Beam: 1.2m, Weight: 35kg An eight-foot dinghy is more than enough for the modest person to get out on the water and achieve ambitious adventures. These boats fit in the back of a station wagon, in a van, on regular roof racks or even in a standard box trailer. Weighing in at a carton and a half of beer allows you to simply carry the boat down to the water or even drop it off the end of a jetty. Once on the water you'll have access to waterways that big boats can only dream of. Just like fishing from a kayak but with added real estate for comfort. The inherently shallow draft almost makes it a challenge to run aground. Specific to the Mountain Boats 8' Pram, the placement of buoyancy chambers along the side is a great feature in the event of swamping. A handy safety feature giving you the confidence to chase the bigger adventures. The buoyancy chambers also double as a clever seat rail allowing you to clip the seats in where you need. No need to sit on top of the outboard or row from your arm pits and you can easily trim the boat whether its just you or you have a crew. A sensible match for this boat is a small outboard, but some people like to keep it simple with a just a pair of oars or a sculling sweep. A sailing kit is available but can add complication for the newbie. As a tender to a mothership the only problem is that you might end up leaving the mothership behind while you head off adventuring in the simplicity of a small boat. How does one small dinghy boast so much? The answer lies between our novel production method and an understanding of what makes a boat useful for certain tasks. A boat that tries to do everything often does nothing well, but a boat built to do what you want will do everything you need. This is why we now offer this dinghy in 4 pre-defined packages, based on your choice of propolsion: the Dam Buster, the Mule, the Cruiser and New Caledonia. If you know your boats, or need something special, we've still got your back at no extra cost. Our novel manufacturing process allows us to switch out parts, add bits and pieces, or finesse the final result to meet your boating desire. So, how do you intend to propel your boat? This is often a combination as it's handy to have auxiliary power with a simple example being an outboard with a basic paddle. BYO welcome, just tell us what you're getting so we can ensure it properly integrates with your boat. We have experience fitting all combinations (including all if you want a really decked out dinghy) and this decision mostly determines what the transom looks like. Its also important to consider which part of the combination you plan to use most, as there is a big difference between a row boat with a small backup motor and a motor boat with backup oars.

11' Open Dinghy

Length Overall: 3.36m, Beam: 1.4m, Weight: 58kg, Max Outboard: 15hp A homage to the classic tinny, this boat is adequate for three mates and an esky. Powered by up to 15hp this boat is made to move and with its elegant wood finishes, it's sure to impress. We've kicked it up a notch with this build utilising 4 different species of wood to make a robust boat that weighs in under 60kg, just like its aluminium and fibreglass peers. The design is based on David Payne's "Woodie", but we've updated the design to meet current standards and what should be expected of a modern tinny. At the heart of the update is the double-skinned foam core side panels that make the design even more robust and provide level buoyancy. That's right, level buoyancy, so you have the confidence that things can go bad without getting even worse. On top of this, we have sourced buoyancy foam certified by Lloyds for use in life rafts so the boat is appropriate for commercial applications. With a larger format boat, the luxury of the added space gives flexibility meaning that this boat doesn't need the same customisation seen in our flagship 8' Pram model. With stowage in all the expected places and a classic layout this boat will fit most boating adventures. The size of this boat does need some consideration of logistics as it doesn't quite have the same convenience as our 8' Pram, but we're happy to assist with many straightforward solutions from specialised roof racks to regular boat trailers.
